Dobrinj

The picturesque town of Dobrinj situated in the interior of the island of Krk is worth a visit primarily because of its historic heritage. The surrounding area was inhabited long before the arrival of the Croats in the 7th century, which is evidenced today by archeological findings from Illyric times in the neighbouring locality of Kras, while the town of Dobrinj was mentioned for the first time in a document from the year 1100. A whole series of documents and Glagolitic inscriptions testify about Dobrinj as the Glagolitic centre of the time, and the church of St. Stephen (Sv. Stjepan), adorned by precious works of art dates back to the same period. In the vicinity of Dobrinj is the cave Biserujka, that has been of interest to visitors from times immemorial, once by stories about hidden smuggling treasures and today owing to its wealth of interesting sedimentary forms.
