Lopar

A picturesque tourist resort 14 km away from Rab old town nucleus. The prehistoric site on its promontory Zidine, the Liburnian old castles and the grove-mounds scattered all around the peninsula are proof of human presence, but also of the significance this part of the island had in the distant past. For instance, Lopar is the birth place of St. Marin, stone-carver and founder of the Republic of San Marino. The resort is surrounded by many bays and with 22 sandy beaches offers the best that a guest may desire for bathing, sun-bathing and relaxing. Of all these beaches by far the best known is the wonderful natural beach Crnika – Rajska plaža, over 1500 m long, near to which is the hotel settlement and motor camp "San Marino". Lopar is also famous for a natural phenomenon – the submarine cave "Medova buža", home of the Mediterranean monk seal, where weddings are organized for those who are fond of sensations.
