Čavle

Čavle is situated in the eastern part of Grobnišćina, an area in the hinterland of Rijeka. Because of its geographical position it represents the northern road access to Rijeka. Čavle became a municipality centre for the first time in 1895. In the Town of Grobnik there is a Castle, built on former foundations, one of a whole series of Frankopan fortifications, built since 1225. On the eastern part of Grobničko polje, recalling the legend of the battle against the Tatars in 1242, stands the baroque castle Mayer from the 17th century. In the northern part of the area is the motor sports racing track, the airport and northernmost the winter sports-recreational centre Platak. In recent years the number of tourists visiting this area has been constantly growing, and after the Town of Grobnik was proclaimed tourist locality, Čavle has opened its doors wide to visitors.
