Kastav

The ancient town of Kastav rises on a high hill overlooking Kvarner. There is no other town in the area with the tradition and identity of Kastav: passing near the Fortica (fortress), Gradska loža (the Municipal Loggia), through the Town gates, along the winding roads leading to Lokvina, Crekvina and the Žudika walls, up the stone staircase (Skaline od sudbine) you reach St. Jelena Church, where a marvelous view extends over Učka and Ćićarija, the sea and the Kvarner Bay islands. Kastav also organizes the international, cultural, summer manifestations, Kastafsko kulturno leto and the Guitar Festival, that have been attracting visitors from Croatia and abroad to performances by world famous artists, for many years. There are also famous folk festivities, such as the traditional new wine festivity - Bela nedeja and the colorful Carnival festivities. There are prestigious restaurants in the pleasant old town atmosphere that gourmands know so well.
