The Littoral Area
Lovran
Lovran is a locality with particularly beneficial climate and vegetation, inhabited ever since Roman times. In later centuries it was even destroyed twice, but it always came up again, to become a tourist resort in the nineteenth century. Its growth was particularly favourable because of the construction of a 12 kilometres long lungomare from Volosko, through Opatija up to Lovran. In the towns surroundings there are luxuriant chestnut forests, the fruits of which are highly appreciated as a culinary delicacy. Lovran is also the main venue of the Marunada – the chestnuts-picking festivity held every year in October.
