Bakar terraces (prezidi)

The inhabitants of Bakar Bay have transformed these steep inaccessible rock slopes into fertile vineyards. That is how the famous Bakar terraces (prezidi) came to be and in 1972 they were declared a cultural monument.
The Bakar prezidi are a specific tourist attraction and an anthem to human hard work and cooperation with nature.
The Bakar Bay is situated some fifteen kilometres south-east of Rijeka, it is four and a half kilometres long, some 600 metres wide and 40 metres deep. The Bay is surrounded by 300-metre high mountains descending steeply into the sea and „enchained“ in the famous Bakar prezidi.
