The mild Mediterranean climate has given the basic impulse to the ancient beginnings, first for health tourism and for year-round tourism thereafter. With more than 217 sunny days a year, the sunniest islands are Lošinj, Cres, Krk and Rab and on the riviera in general rainy days are rare. In summer months the sea temperatures frequently reach 26 degrees C, while 18 degrees C , pleasant for many tourists, are retained in spring and autumn, too.
