The Rab Fair (Rapska fjera)

Rab

The Rab Fair is a three-day event first held in 2002. Every summer since, from July 22nd through 27th, the streets of the town of Rab come alive. The holiday was first established on July 1st, 1364 in honor of King Louis the Great who had released Rab from the Venetians and in honor of St. Christopher, the patron saint of Rab, whose relics had saved Rab from invaders.

The Rab Fair’s value lies in the fact that it nurtures and develops autochthonous and traditional values. Fair participants are local craftsmen and artisans occupied in crafts that existed in the Middle Ages, as well as associations and cultural-artistic companies that cultivate traditional values, local product manufacturing and way of living.

Baskets of all sizes, only just minted coins for luck, ceramic dishes … everything exactly as it was manufactured in the Middle Ages. Here you will also find honey producers, lace-makers, stone carvers, carpenters, blacksmiths, medieval musicians who contribute to the overall atmosphere with their songs and costumes of the time…

If you get hungry – and you most certainly will, after so much excitement – dishes prepared and served as in the old times will be waiting for you in the fisherman’s medieval village.
