Kvarner as One System: Marijana Kalčić Begins Her Tour of Tourist Boards in Gorski Kotar
2.6.2026.
The Kvarner Tourist Board must become a place that connects people, destinations, projects, and ideas, operating as a unified system for the benefit of the entire region, stated the new Director of the Kvarner Tourist Board, Marijana Kalčić, during her first official visit to local tourist boards, which began in Gorski Kotar.
During a meeting with Petar Hrga, President of the Gorski Kotar Tourist Board, and staff member Rahela Vitasović, discussions focused on strengthening cooperation, addressing the challenges faced by local tourist boards, and identifying concrete steps that can further enhance the region’s tourism development. Kalčić praised the proactive approach of the Gorski Kotar team, particularly highlighting the quality of their promotional materials and their dedicated efforts to position Gorski Kotar as an attractive tourist destination.
While Kvarner’s tourism story has traditionally been associated with its coast and islands, changing travel trends are creating new opportunities for destinations that offer a different pace of holiday experience.
Gorski Kotar is increasingly attracting visitors seeking fresh air, outdoor activities, authentic experiences, and an escape from the summer crowds. Particular emphasis was placed on gastronomy, one of the region’s most valuable assets. While sampling seasonal ingredients and local products, it was noted that the area’s distinctive flavours, traditions, and the stories of local producers represent significant potential for further strengthening the tourism offer.
The visit to Gorski Kotar is the first in a series of meetings that the new Director of the Kvarner Tourist Board will hold with tourist boards across the region. The goal is to meet the people who create the tourism story of their destinations every day, listen to their needs, and further strengthen cooperation within the tourism system.
A strong Kvarner is built when every tourist board, from the coast to the mountains, knows it has a partner who listens, connects, encourages cooperation, and works together to create the future of the region, concluded Marijana Kalčić.
