Advent is the ideal time to experience Opatija in a romantic festive atmosphere that can be felt at every turn among the elegant fin de siècle villas, in the streets and on the squares lit by Advent lights, with the enticing scents of hot tea, fresh coffee and aromatic chocolate wafting from the town's Vienna-style cafés.

The packed and varied Advent in Opatija programme will connect several key locations in the town in the period from 26 November to 15 January. Musical performances and holographic projections will take place in the Juraj Šporer Arts Pavilion and in the town's parks. The Open Air Theatre will once again be transformed into a winter stage with an ice skating rink, and Santa Claus will not only return to Učka Nature Park, but will also visit Santa Claus Town in the Hotel 4 Opatijska Cvijeta. In front of the town market hall, there will be a new programme every week, and Sveti Jakov Park will host after-job parties every Friday.

Opatija's visitors of all ages can look forward to the sweetest weekend of Advent with the Chocolate Festival, and outdoor enthusiasts to the first Santa Claus Run Up from Opatija to Veprinac, which will take place on 18 December. The New Year's Eve party in the town will be in front of Opatija's Market Hall with performances by Neno Belan & Fiumens and Mauro Staraj & La Banda.

For the duration of the event, parking for passenger cars in public areas on Saturdays and Sundays will be free of charge.
