Events calendar

Every year, carnival in Opatija and its surroundings begins on the Feast Day of St. Anthony on 17th January. This period is locally known as "the fifth season".

To experience carnival in Opatija, you can attend events such as the Children’s Carnival Parade with its numerous children’s carnival groups and the "Balinjerada" soapbox race of original self-made vehicles called "karići" that run on ball bearings (locally known as balinjere – hence the name) instead of wheels.
