CHRISTMAS CONCERT

REJOICE, O PEOPLES!

WOMEN’S AND MEN’S CHOIR KASTAV AND FRIENDS

After the successful recordings of most of the repertoire for the Christmas carol album held this autumn in the Church of St. Helena Crucifix in Kastav, the sections of the Kanat Association – the Women’s and Men’s Choir Kastav – will organize a Christmas concert Rejoice, O Peoples! in the same location on Friday, December 27th, starting at 19:30. The concert's guests are friends of the Kastav community who also participated in the mentioned recordings, performing together with the Kastav choirs in part of the program: the Women’s Choir Hreljin from Hreljin, and the men’s choirs Skalin from Matulji and Gradelini from Rijeka.

The Christmas carol album, which is in preparation, is titled Porodil se j’ (Born is He), after the folk Christmas song from Kastav Porodil se j’ Kralj nebeski (Born is the Heavenly King), recorded and arranged by Ivan Matetić Ronjgov, and recorded by the Women’s and Men’s Choir Kastav with accompaniment by Aleksandar Valenčić on the organ. The album is expected to be released during the Advent season of 2025. This will be in the year when the members of the Men’s Choir Kastav will celebrate thirty years since they revived the custom of Christmas caroling on the Feast of the Three Kings in Kastav and its surrounding areas, after this ancient Kastav tradition of holiday caroling had ceased in 1946, following the last caroling procession in the area. This album, aside from Christmas folk songs from Istria, the Croatian Littoral, Dalmatia, and other parts of Croatia, will also preserve the carols related to the custom of Christmas caroling in Kastav for the first time, making them available for the public. The entire repertoire, including songs associated with the caroling tradition in Dalmatia, will be performed at the upcoming Christmas concert in Kastav.
