The International Carnival Parade is the crown jewel of carnival festivities in the Kvarner region and one of the most important carnival events in Europe. A competition of creativity, wit, and originality, combined with a dazzling display of colors and shapes, transforms Rijeka’s Korzo into the stage of an unforgettable spectacle.

Since its revival in 1982, organized by the Rijeka Tourist Board, the Rijeka Carnival has continued the centuries-old tradition of masquerading in Croatia’s coastal regions and has positioned the city among Europe’s leading carnival destinations. From its modest beginnings with just a few carnival groups, the event has grown into an international manifestation that each year brings together hundreds of allegorical floats, thousands of masks, and countless visitors from Croatia and abroad.

The International Carnival Parade showcases traditional and urban carnival groups who, through their costumes, choreography, and messages, comment on contemporary social issues while preserving a rich heritage of folklore, mythology, and the civic carnival tradition. This unique blend makes the Rijeka Carnival truly special and internationally recognizable.

The Rijeka Carnival cannot be fully captured through photographs or television broadcasts – it must be experienced live. So come to Rijeka and be whatever you wish, because carnival is a time of freedom, imagination, and joy!
