Opatija is entering its most joyful period – the fifth season! From 17 January to 18 February, the city will be taken over by masks, music, laughter and an unforgettable carnival atmosphere that blurs the line between imagination and reality.

The carnival season kicks off on 17 January at 11:00 AM at the city market with the ceremonial raising of the carnival flag and the traditional hanging of the “pust”, the symbolic culprit for all misfortunes of the past year. A series of events will follow, bringing unforgettable moments for all generations – from musical evenings and exhibitions to the most attractive carnival manifestations that make Opatija Carnival widely known.

🎉 Highlights of the program:

1 February – Children’s Carnival Parade with over 3,000 little masks
6 February at 8:00 PM – Carnival Klapa Marathon (Marino Cvetković Sports Hall)
8 February – 43rd Balinjerada, the unique carnival race on ball bearings
13 February at 7:00 PM – Carnival Dance at Pul Barić with Duško Jeličić Dule and Bonaca

A special highlight of the program is the photo exhibition by Lumber Club Opatija, celebrating 60 years of one of the oldest active carnival groups in Liburnia.
