🏛️ MARITIME AND HISTORY MUSEUM OF THE CROATIAN LITTORAL RIJEKA

August 2026 in the sign of maritime stories and rich local history

The Maritime and History Museum of the Croatian Littoral Rijeka prepares two exceptionally interesting exhibitions for August, connecting global history with local destinies and revealing the rich cultural heritage of our region. Explore the story of the only surviving life jacket from the Titanic in Europe or walk through the history of education in our homeland!

✨ AUGUST AT THE MUSEUM – EVENT PROGRAM:

🛳️ EXHIBITION: TITANIC – CARPATHIA
📅 Open for visitors until: August 31, 2026
📍 Location: "Srce" Program Space, V.B.Z. Bookstore, Korzo 9, Rijeka

• After 14 years and successful tours across Europe (Poland, Hungary, Slovakia) and Croatia (Zagreb, Split), the fascinating story of the destinies of Croatian sailors and passengers on the Titanic and Carpathia returns to Rijeka. The exhibition by author Nikša Mendeš showcases the rare survivors, the fates of the victims' families, and Rijeka's shipping lines to New York, where the then American consul Fiorello la Guardia played an important role.
🌟 Special Attraction: The story of the young waiter from Rijeka, Josip Car, who brought a life jacket from the Titanic as a souvenir from the Carpathia. Today, this jacket is part of the PPMHP collection – one of only 12 preserved in the entire world and the only one on European soil!

🎒 EXHIBITION: EDUCATION OF THE LITTORAL (ŠKOLSTVO PRIMORJA)
📅 Exhibition dates: From August 25 to September 8, 2026
📍 Location: City of Rijeka exhibition panels (Korzo)

• An exhibition created in cooperation with the associations of the third convention of the Civic Museum Council (Cultural Association "Stol" Kraljevica, Association "Kastav naš stari grad", Association "Bez granica" – Drenova) under the curatorial guidance of Marko Badurina. Through interesting historical snippets, the panels on Korzo will present the rich history and curiosities related to the development of schooling in the Kastav area, Drenova, Kraljevica, and the surroundings. This exhibition testifies to how education has powerfully shaped our region and its inhabitants through the centuries.
