Delnice
Just fifteen kilometres from the sea, 300 – 1500 m above sea level and spread out over 6,400 ha, lies National Park Risnjak. Its unique topography and rich animal and plant life have earned it the status of an area of great natural value.
Lokve
Along the Rijeka-Zagreb motorway, only a kilometre from Lokve, lies Golubinjak Forest Park granted the status in 1954.
Delnice
Bordering the western part of Delnice is Japlenški vrh - a protected forest park perfect for recreation and sports, covering approx. 170 hectares.
Skrad
There are two lovely recreational reserves within a short distance from Skrad: Zeleni vir and Vražji prolaz.
Vrbovsko
Kamačnik is a protected canyon of the Kamačnik river not far from the town of Vrbovsko.
Delnice
Peak Petehovac is both a protected recreational reserve and a natural phenomenon. It is a popular sports zone of the Delnice area.
Mrkopalj
In the Mrkopalj area the main attraction is the White and Pack-Saddle Rocks Strict Nature Reserve, comprising two beautiful natural phenomena and providing habitat for a wide range of animals and plants.
Lokve
Lokvarka Cave is one of the most beautiful natural attractions in the Lokve area and one of the biggest caves in Croatia open to visitors.
Fužine
Vrelo Cave is 300 meters long. It is located only three kilometres from the centre of Fužine.
Delnice
In the Drgomalj area north of the town of Delnice is Hajdova hiža, the biggest, but hardly accessible Gorski kotar cave.
Čabar
In the western part of the Risnjak mountain range, at 313 metres above sea level, lay the headwaters of the Kupa. One of the most beautiful river sources in Croatia is a unique hydrological phenomenon. The source, Lake Kupeško, is in a cutting, surrounded by forests and rocks. It is considered one of the deepest and vastest in Croatia.
Skrad
The Dobra, flowing east of Skrad and ending in the attractive Gojačka Dobra in Karlovac County, is second largest river in Gorski kotar.
Lokve
The Lokve lake is the biggest lake in Gorski kotar. It is 40 meters deep and covers 2.1 kilometres. It is both natural and manmade.
Fužine
In the flooded Ličanka valley northwest of Fužine is lake Bajer. After the dam was completed over a period of time Lake Lepenica formed.
Mrkopalj
Bjelolasica is the highest elevation in Gorski kotar. It is almost 6 kilometres long and stands above Mrkopalj and Jasenak shaped like a long crest.
Čabar
The Petar Zrinski Castle is located in the heart of Čabar, one of the largest towns in Gorski kotar, close to Croatia’s border with Slovenia.
Brod Moravice
One of the oldest churches in Gorski kotar is the single-nave St. Nicolas Church in Brod Moravice.
Ravna Gora
Gorski kotar has sacral monuments with exceptionally rich treasuries.
Moravička Sela
The church of Our Lady of the Scapular in Moravička sela is a votive church were festivities are held twice a year ( on July 18 and September 6) in honour of Our Lady of the Scapular and Our Lady of Mount Carmel.
Delnice
The Gorski Kotar Forest Fruits Festival takes place each year, May through October.
Vrbovsko
One of the most attractive autumn events is the two-day traditional Pumpkin Festival in Vrbovsko.
Ravna Gora
Each May in Ravna Gora is reserved for the yearly Antiques Festival, a two-day event dedicated to old traditions, ancient recipes and long-cherished customs.
Lokve
Lokve is situated in the midst of Gorski kotar and here it is all about frogs. Frogs have become Lokve’s brand. The town boasts an interesting Frog Museum and every spring visitors come to enjoy the annual Frog Catchers’ Night.
Delnice
The event is organized each summer, from June through September, comprising a series of events and countryside walks following the historic roads that have lost importance after modern motorways had been constructed.
