Rab Knights’ Tournament

Rab

The Rab Knights’ Tournament is a colorful event first held in 1995 as a celebration of the town’s medieval past. The knights’ tournaments have been held here since 1364, commemorating the knights who defended Rab. Brave archers were specially trained in crossbow style archery and used crossbows that can today be seen in the tournaments of San Marino crossbow men only.

On the track of history records other celebrations are held on: 9th May - Victory Day, 25th June - Croatian National Day, 27th July- St. Christopher’s Day, and 15th August – Day of Our Lady’s Assumption.

The weapon used by Rab crossbowmen is the medieval defensive crossbow with which Rab inhabitants, positioned in the city walls, defended their town  in the 11th century and they also armed the Rab galleons in the famous Battle of Lepanto.

The Association of Rab Crossbowmen – that fosters this tradition – is a recognizable island brand, deserving for the promotion of Rab and Croatian tourism also outside the Country borders.
