In the western part of the Risnjak mountain range, at 313 metres above sea level, lay the headwaters of the Kupa. One of the most beautiful river sources in Croatia is a unique hydrological phenomenon. The source, Lake Kupeško, is in a cutting, surrounded by forests and rocks. It is considered one of the deepest and vastest in Croatia.
After the wild rapids of the initial flow that are several kilometres long, the Kupa becomes a calm, clean and clear water course intersected by many waterfalls and surrounded by deep canyons and picturesque plains of the Kupa valley. The area is ideal for adrenaline sports as well as for meditative walks.
