As a competition festival (with awards assigned in some ten categories) with a solid conceptual direction (the choice of shows is usually gathered around one or more thematic directions) and a very vivid atmosphere (well attended discussions after the shows), the Festival has very quickly become one of the most prestigious theatre events in the region.

During the summer months, Astronomical Centre Rijeka prepared a special programme for foreign tourists in English language.

Educational programme

Many successful programmes have been held since the beginning of this famous summer event that takes place within the atmosphere of the beautiful Trsat Castle. The cultural and entertainment programme takes place inside the walls of this historical building which hosts numerous famous Croatian actors and musicians.

Ri gastro and Rijeka's caterers are organising a special edition of the event with the aim of promoting the national gastronomic traditions and cultures of the minorities living in our area. This event also doubles as an intro to Porto Etno - The World Music and Gastro Festival.

Masked Pehin is an traditional event, which for the last twenty years is being held in Pehlin. The main purpose of this traditional event is presentation, sustention and preservation of local carnival customs. Traditional parade of the carnival groups will start at 11 am.

Masked entertainment games move to Platak.

The masked “Paris-Bakar” Rally is a traditional event that has taken place continually since 1990, organised by the “Rijeka” Auto Club as a parody of the world famous rally “Paris-Dakar” and since then has been a supporting sports event of the Rijeka Carnival.

In its third, renewed edition, Festival of Experimental Film and Video – [X]FEFV, presents recent exeperimental film and video art production enriched by other genre and style hybrids.

One of the longest running festivals featuring new bands, the Ri Rock Festival has become Rijeka's musical trademark. It is the central event of Rijeka's alternative scene. Many now famous names like Parafi, Termiti, Fit, Denis&Denis, Grč, Laufer, Let 3, Urban etc. launched their career on the Ri Rock stage.

The beneficial health effects of wild edible plants, whose gastronomical application is a tradition in the Kvarner region, have been well-documented for thousands of years.

The Shrine of Our Lady of Trsat celebrates its holiday every year on May 10, which also marks the beginning of the pilgrim year, and it is preceded by Mary's Days in Trsat (May 7-10). Along with a religious program and pilgrimages of different groups to the Sanctuary, the peak of these festivities is the celebration of Mother's Day and the seamen's pilgrimage followed by various cultural and music programs.

Fiumanka - more than a regatta Rijeka and its port will once again become a meeting place for sailors, businessmen and media representatives at the 17th international event "Fiumanka" which in most northern Adriatic bay, brings together more than twenty thousand people and nearly two thousand sailors

From 10 to 16 June, it's time for cherries, which are at their tastiest and healthiest around the Feast Day of St Vitus, the patron saint of Rijeka. You can try them when they're fresh, in pastries or in certain savoury dishes.

Programme for foreign tourists on Wednesdays at 8 pm: "Starry Nights" - "Touching the Edge of the Universe" and guided stargazing tour. Film will be shown in English language.

The Old Town never sleeps, especially on Thursday, when it hosts the Summer in the Old Town programme on Pavlinski trg. Entry is free of charge.

Following the season, the first edition of this year's Rijeka gastro days from 11 to 18 April will be dedicated to asparagus. The desire behind this event is to teach and preserve the tradition of Mediterranean food, for which numerous studies have proven to have great benefits.

Exhibition Faggian Collection has been established thanks to the cooperation between Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art and collector Albert Faggian. The exhibition will present 130 works, mostly paintings and about 10 sculptures, created from the end of 19th century to today.

Thanks to the tireless sea and maritime enthusiasts, Rijeka offers to its citizens and visitors an interesting retro event: "Fiumare" - Kvarner festival of the sea and maritime tradition. At the time of the event, Rijeka "goes back 100 years" when the area around Dead Canal was a place of intense daily commercial traffic.

During the summer months, Rijeka’s squares, streets and terraces become a theatre stage.

Gastro days are organized with the aim of learning and conserving the traditions of the Mediterranean Diet in this area whose beneficial effect has been proved by numerous studies.

Restaurants and caterers prepare seasonally themed dishes made with local ingredients for the occasion by using traditional recipes that sensibly suggest that one should eat food from one’s own environment, in line with the vicissitudes of nature.

By connecting the maritime and commercial tradition of the past with contemporary everyday life, "Fiumare" becomes a certain time machine on the authentic locations of Delta - Dead Canal and Verdi Street - connections to both market and port.
